Gemma Miles, the salon's owner and creative director recently entered the World Hairdressing Championships, held in Paris during September 2019.
This isn’t the first time Gemma has entered a competition of this scale, the last time was in Berlin in 2000 and Gemma was placed highest Britain in her category. In addition, she was nominated for Student of the Year at the Pantene Pro-V Awards 2002, crowned British Junior Champion in 1998, named as Britain's Best Bride runner up in 2012, and won the title of Welsh Bridal Champion in 2013.
This time around, representing Northern Ireland (as sadly GB no longer have a team), Gemma opted to enter in two technical categories; Senior Day Style and Hair by Night. Trained by her father, Phillip Parkin, a former Great British team member, Gemma spent hours practicing in preparation for the major event.
Some countries still use traditional models, but many teams are now opting to use to use mannequin heads for the technical competitions, and Northern Ireland is one of them. Gemma’s mannequin head was carefully cut in advanced, and coloured with Goldwell products. As an accredited Goldwell Colour Expert, Gemma has used the Goldwell brand for the past 25 years in her salon, and when it came to creating the colour for the World Championships, it was the only colour range she trusted.
Gemma commented: “I am incredibly proud of my achievements at the World Championships - the standard was extremely high and it was an honour to be competing with many participants from around the globe! To finish in a very respectable 13th place overall totally blew my mind and surpassed all my expectations”.
Gemma hopes to continue her professional competing journey and hopes to enter the British Championships in Blackpool in March 2020.
