Top 5 Winter Hair Problems Solved

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

With the cold weather still very much upon us, salon director Gemma Miles shares her top 5 tips to solve your winter hair woes.

Top 5 Winter Hair Problems Solved

1. Winter proof your locks

We all know that it doesn’t need to rain for curly hair to absorb the damp atmosphere resulting in frizzy waves. This hair type is thirsty, so if the hair is fed with nourishing smoothing products it’s less likely to absorb the damp in the atmosphere. The Moroccanoil smoothing range is a stylist’s saviour in this situation. For a lighter version the frizz control spray will be the best to achieve the same result.

2. Don't let your hair get blown away

We often ask ourselves; why in the movies does wind in the hair look so glamorous but in reality look so different? A good hairspray is the only defence against this wonderful weather pattern. Our stylists recommend a flexible hold for long hair so it can be brushed out and restyled. Shorter hair needs a firm hold to fix your style in place. Moroccanoil have a beautiful flexible hold hairspray but for a firm hold it’s got to be KMS HairStay, a firm finishing spray.

3. Sore scalp

Our skin isn’t at its best in these winter months and we often find this with the scalp as well. This is because we are in and out of different temperatures, as well as the drying effects of central heating. This is a common problem that can be helped with the change of a shampoo. KMS HeadRemedy range has something to settle down a range of scalp problems whilst being kind to the hair.

4. Tired hair

After the summer fun we are ready to hibernate and so is our hair. The change of seasons does take its toll on our hair, and a visit to the salon could be just the TLC your hair needs. A Bondpro+ treatment added to a colour service will reconnect broken bonds and repair damage to hair. If you would rather do a home hair pamper, the Moroccanoil hydrating mask once a week will also do wonders. It so easy to do apply to freshly cleansed hair then wrap a warm towel round for 15 mins, following on with a thorough rinse, and your hair will feel and look revived back to life.

5. Party hair

Winter isn’t just about bad weather it’s also party season. The top party looks this year are about volume, so the Moroccanoil Root Boost is your best bet. It does what it says on the can; just add to the roots to the hair before blow-drying for root lift giving the hair a fuller look no matter how hard you party. Curls are also a must this season and are super easy to achieve with the right tools like the ghd tongs. Wind small sections of your hair around and get a beautiful curl. Soften it to a wave by teasing it out with your fingers. Alternatively cheat your way to looking fabulous for your party by having your hair and make up done in salon, with packages starting at £45, its hard to resist.

I'd love to hear how you get on.
